Seattle - Matthew Leo Huels, Jr.

June 19, 1964 - December 17, 2025

Matthew Huels, Jr., 61, of Seattle, Washington passed away on December 17, 2025. A 1982 graduate of Mater Dei High School, Matt earned his undergraduate degree from Illinois State University (also attending the University of Montana) in 1986, followed by an MBA from St. Louis University in 1989.

Matt was a free spirit who walked his own path with confidence, kindness and grace. A world traveler and lover of the outdoors, he was a compassionate soul who considered every person he met a brother or sister. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and universal friendship. For the past 18 years, Matt found a home and community at DESC's Evans House in Seattle. His family is forever grateful to the DESC staff for the dignity and care they provided him.

Matt will join his father, Matt Sr, in heaven, along with his brother, Tom; his sister, Janet; and his niece, Hazel.

He will be greatly missed by his mother, Rita; his siblings, Paul (Karen), Mary Jo (David), Billy (Cathy), and Diane (Nico); along with many nieces, nephews, and friends at Evans House who became part of his family.

A memorial for Matt is being held at Evans House. A celebration of life is being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to DESC at www.desc.org.
